Picture of the Day
A small, brown Japanese pika sits perched atop a moss-covered boulder in the lower-left foreground. Behind it, a beautifully weathered, S-curved dwarf stone pine tree splits into two dense, cloud-like tufts of green pine needles. The surrounding landscape features jagged, lichen-mottled granite rocks and rolling green alpine hills that slowly disappear into a heavy, white mountain fog.

A Japanese Pika (Ochotona hyperborea yesoensis), locally revered as the Naki-usagi, sheltering beneath a dwarf Japanese Stone Pine (Pinus pumila).

Whispers of the Northern Peaks
