Ink and Alpine Mist
We watched from the gravel flats as a freezing, dense valley fog rolled in off the braided riverbeds, slowly consuming the base of the high country. Stripped of all color, the landscape transformed into a stark, ink-washed canvas of deep charcoal slopes and luminous white ribbons of vapor. The morning was entirely silent, saving for the quiet hiss of the distant mountain streams cutting through the valleys. The low clouds clung tightly to the folds of the ridges, weaving blindly between stands of dark pines before spilling down onto the wetlands below. In this monochrome world, the jagged textures of the peaks and the soft, feather-like drifting of the mist created a timeless theater of pure form, light, and shadow.
