Crowned in Wandering Clouds
The brutal climb up the steep, muddy ridgeline dissolved into pure awe the moment the morning fog fractured below us. Standing on a vibrant cushion of subalpine meadow, I watched a sea of low, soft clouds lap lazily against the sheer rock ribs of the valley like waves on a silent shore. High above, the massive, jagged crown of the peak pierced the gathering storm, its icy couloirs catching the sharp, raking light of the early sun. The air was thin and freezing, biting at my face with every gust that swept down from the permanent glaciers just out of sight. In this towering theater of rock and ice, the earth felt monumentally raw, a rugged sanctuary where the mountains dictate their own weather and the valleys sleep in a blanket of perpetual morning mist.
