Gold on Gnarled Boughs

A fleeting window of autumnal warmth pierces the somber, heavy atmosphere of the Scottish Highlands, illuminating a brilliant cluster of lakeside trees against a backdrop of impending winter. Along the quiet shores of the loch, native silver birches twist their pale, gnarled trunks toward the water, their delicate leaves transformed into a glowing canopy of fiery amber and gold. In the distance, the rugged, glacial flanks of the mountains stand stark and intimidating, their upper ridges already dusted with the season's first pale snows under a low, bruising sky that threatens rain.
