Chrome extension
Picture of the Day privacy policy
How the new-tab extension uses the public photograph feed, and what it keeps on this device.
Picture of the Day is a Chrome extension that replaces the new tab page with the current photograph from https://pictureoftheday.flyingriver.com.
The extension requests that site's public RSS feed and the current photograph so it can show the picture, its title, and its location. Those requests use HTTPS. The extension does not add an account name, cookie, or analytics identifier. The site receives the connection the way it would if you opened the site yourself.
On this device, the extension stores the picture's metadata with chrome.storage.local and the image bytes in IndexedDB. It uses that copy to show the last good picture and to avoid downloading the same image again within about an hour. The extension does not send that stored copy to the developer. Uninstalling the extension removes it.
The extension does not collect your name, email address, location, browsing history, or the contents of pages you visit. It does not sell or transfer user data. It does not use data for advertising, credit, or lending. It has no account and no in-app purchase.
The photograph's location is a place name supplied by the picture feed. It is not the location of the person using the extension.
